Dear mister Gross!
Very curious definition in modern physics. " The quantum theory of a field ".
Whether and there are in the Nature "physical" fields in general? And suddenly that invention by a human being with the purpose to understand a natural phenomenon? Why that anybody is not engaged to answer in such question. And what actually?
Everywhere and everywhere we see only forces of interaction between physical objects. Forces arise from masses (gravitation, inertia, energy of movement), from electric charges and their currents (atoms, nucleus, light). We finds out these forces only with the help of substance (mass, a charge, their current).
The thought up fields transfer these forces through emptiness, figuratively speaking, up to receivers and indicators of these fields. And nobody doubts that here (of emptiness!) the logic of the Nature and the person is kept. Who will answer this a question - problem? Theorists, Maldasena, the Gross... Sergey Popov, Igor Ivanov?
Why there was a such porridge from materialism in the form of masses, charges, currents and idealism in the form of the emptiness transmitting on unlimited distances physical fields?
